Just as the recent storm tore through the north-west the night before, City swept United aside at the Etihad. It was a convincing three-nil triumph for their manager's side thanks to goals from Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a result that truly announced their leadership claims as they reinforced their place at the top of the table.

Consecutive Losses for United

This result signalled successive WSL losses for Marc Skinner’s side for the first time since spring 2024, placing them a significant margin off the top team with their title hopes in serious doubt.

The Red Devils' ability to manage league and continental soccer with a small team has been a hotly discussed topic since they qualified for the Champions League.
